2010 King of the Ice
Firehouse Hockey Tournament
Newbridge Arena, Bellmore NY
Congratulations to the 2010 King!
Coney Island
E245/L161/B43
Coney Island's E245/L161/B43 defeated The Eye of the Storm E280/L132 by the score of 4-1 to capture their fourth King of the Ice Championship.
Led by Tournament MVP Mike Dawson, Coney Island came out of the gate flying and put up an early 2-0 lead. The Eye of the Storm would not go quietly, and battled back to make the score 2-1 late in the third period. This was a game of momentum swings and the pressure was solidly on Coney Island. The Eye of the Storm's offense was swirling but Coney's Island's goaltender, Mike Doran was up to the task. Earning his Best Goalie Award, Doran held off the Eye of the Storm's onslaught long enough for his team to add 2 more goals and lock up their 4th championship.
Those who play in the tournament know this is no easy accomplishment. There are 94 other teams that don't get near the Coliseum ice. For E280/L132 to get to the final again and Coney Island to win this tournament four times, our hat's are off to both finalists and our new King!
The New York City Fire Department Hockey Team would like to thank all the firehouses, all the teams, and all the participants for making this tournament what it is today- the largest hockey tournament in the world with one champion! Without your cooperation this would not be possible, and your support for this event and the "A" team never goes unnoticed. Thank you.
Special thanks to Larry "Redlight" Feilich and Tom Connors. Redlight is our official scorer, having done most of the games since we started the tournament 15years ago. Tommy is in charge of the officiating crews. Both are thankless jobs. They are, however, essential to the success of our tournament and we'd like to acknowledge their contributions.
